Balcony Garden

Hello again! It’s been a while since I last posted, but with good reason. Not much has been going on and I didn’t feel it necessary to bore everyone with my commentary on the latest Dr Phil. I’ve also been going through a hard time emotionally after some news from my doctor. To help me with this, my brother suggested I start a new hobby. I have a lot of hobbies truthfully speaking. There is a short list of things I’d like to do, but for whatever reason couldn’t at the time I thought of it. One of the things on that list was gardening.

I’ve always dreamt of a huge garden full of produce. I care about what I eat and most of the time I don’t know where it comes from. I learned from working at a farmers market and doing some research, that food in stores really can’t be trusted. Neither can the label “organic.” Every year, my local farmers market brings in the spring by selling baby produce plants. I decided to take full advantage of this and purchase a basil, sweet pepper, and lettuce plant. I have a small balcony so I couldn’t afford to get too much more yet.   They have grown a little bit, but they’ve also gotten a little messed up (it got extremely cold one night and burned them). But either way, this is a new hobby I really enjoy. I feel so excited when I see that they’ve grown. I feel happy when they look healthy. I still have a long way to go, but I’m still going to give myself the title of gardener.

Till next time,

Procrastination Queen

Today, my husband and I went to a very well rated sandwich shop for lunch. The inside is light gray, bright yellow, and white with dark wood. Pretty cute color selection in my opinion. As soon as you walk in there’s tall racks of assorted cookies, a cooler with nearly every American bottled tea and water, and a very yummy looking display of gelato. Honestly, the sandwich wasn’t that great. The quality of the turkey was above average for sure, but that’s all it really had going for it. I was far more delighted with the restaurants decor.

As you may have noticed, all that had absolutely nothing to do with the title of this post. I haven’t posted in a couple of days, because I’ve been studying. Something I’ve been avoiding since October. I have to take an entrance exam for math to get back into college. It’s not that I’m bad at it or hate it, I just find it incredibly boring to study. But I have to get this done! Please pray for my focus!

Ugandan Kids Choir

This has been a great week! I started working out again (after a year and a half), my husband had a week off of work, and I started this blog. I’ve had a mix between super relaxing days and days of discovering new avenues in the beautiful state I live in. The greatest, most humbling part of this week was how it ended. Today’s church service was an hour of seeing the Ugandan Kids Choir perform and learning about all of the wonderful things Childcare Worldwide is doing. Check out the links below if you’d like to learn more. I wish you guys a great week and I’ll be posting again soon. (I’m sorry my pictures aren’t that great)

Where will this go?

Hey guys! I didn’t post yesterday, because I wasn’t able to start reading until 12 o’clock last night. I got about sixteen pages in before I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. As you can see by the photo, my current read is The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. It was a winner for a Goodreads 2015 Choice Award and is rated 3.84/5 on Goodreads. My mom has also read this book and loved it. The book has started a little slow, but it’s full of rich detail and has an interesting diary format. I will warn you now, I’m going to read through this pretty slow. I’m a slow reader, I’m reading the Bible in a year, and I have a slight back log of comic books. But, when I do finish I’ll post a no spoiler review.

Happy reading!

Learning to Shop Smart

Welcome to my first shopping post! I do not work. The main reason I do not work is because my husband is in the Navy. Meaning he’s barely home (sad face). When I was working, I was barely home and it brought way too much unnecessary stress into our relationship. So, we decided it was better for me to stop working. No longer working meant I had to cut back on shopping and pay more attention to our budget. I spent hours looking up information on budgeting and things I could do to make sure we always had what we needed and still be able to purchase things we enjoy (comic books, video games, etc.). Three of the greatest things I learned were to do price comparisons, basic couponing,  and taking advantage of sales. So, the Shopping Hauls category will be me sharing great finds from food to clothes and hopefully help you all save more money.

The haul that arrived yesterday was from Forever 21. This is one of my favorite stores, but it can be extremely pricey. The Forever 21 at my local mall is two floors and the sales racks are overwhelming. Men’s is mixed with women’s and finding your size in something you like is a joke. I decided to checkout their website and found that they have a sales section online. I was able to filter clothes they had in stock in my size. I also got a 10% off coupon for creating a new account. I only bought from the sales section and ended up spending $65 after taxes. Because my order was over $50 I also received free shipping. The retail price of my haul was $172 before taxes! They also have a men’s sales section, so anyone can take advantage of this opportunity to save. (I do recommend that you first go to the store and see what size you are in different styles of clothes)

That’s all for now! Feel free to comment and share your favorite shopping tips!

The Chrysler Museum of Art

Today’s adventure was to the lovely Chrysler Museum of Art. On the special occasion that my husband doesn’t have to work, we try to visit the museum. This one in particular has a very notable glass collection. All of these photos (except the portrait of course) are part of their collection. I included the portrait, because Mrs. Peale looks so quirky and fun spirited. Museums are some of the best places to have an adventure. You can travel back in time, see different parts of the world, learn about the  many cultures of the world, and so much more. Best of all, it’s all for free. However, I do encourage you to get a membership or donate to your favorite museum. That’s all for today guys. Right now, I’m aiming to post at least once a day.

Bon Voyage!

My First Post!

img_0467-1Hello everyone! I know my “About” section shares a little about me, but for my first post I thought I’d share a little more about myself. My name is Kenia (pronounced Kenya) and I’m 21 years old. I’m married to a U.S. Sailor and he is also 21. We met in high school and were best friends. During my time in college and his time in the Navy, we started dating. Our marriage is still within its first year. Needless to say, it’s been a huge adjustment. We are young, but extremely excited for this journey God has put us on. Overall, my blog is going to be more in the form of a diary. So, I’m hoping as time goes on you all really get to know me. I love cooking, exploring, comic books, trying new things, volunteering, church, music, and crafts. I’m excited to share all this and so much more with you all! Please leave me questions and comments. This is my first blog and I’m open to any advice.
